IRAQI, CUBAN PARLIAMENTARIANS DISCUSS COOPERATION, "FACING THE SAME ENEMY" BBC Monitoring Service United Kingdom Text of report in English by Iraqi TV on 10 March Financial Times March 10, 2001 Speaker of the National Assembly Sa'dun Hammadi today received Speaker of the Cuban Parliament Mr Ricardo Alarcon and his accompanying delegation. Dr Hammadi stressed the importance of exchanging visits between the two friendly countries, in order to promote relations between Iraq and Cuba. He also called for coordinating efforts and stances in parliamentary affairs. Dr Hammadi expressed appreciation for Cuba's positive supportive stance with Iraq. For his part, Mr Alarcon pointed out that his country is facing the same enemy, a matter that enforces a supportive stand with Iraq. He affirmed readiness of the Cuban parliament to cooperate with the Iraqi parliament in all international parliamentary gatherings. The meeting was attended by acting head of the Arab and International Relations Committee at the National Assembly, Dr Abd-al-Rahman al-Hamadani, and the Cuban ambassador in Baghdad.
